To stop child marriages, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma declared on Wednesday that all female students from Class 11 to post-graduation will receive a monthly stipend from his administration for the next five years.
The cabinet authorized the ‘Nijut Moina’ initiative, estimating that incentives for about 10 lakh females will cost Rs 1,500 crore over the next five years.
All girls in classes 11 and 12 will receive Rs 1,000 per month under this system; girls pursuing a degree will receive Rs 1,250, and girls pursuing post-graduation Rs 2,500.
