The Karnataka Health Department on Tuesday launched the Dr Puneeth Rajkumar Heart Program to treat those facing heart failure and unexpected cardiac arrest.
Barely two days had passed since the death anniversary of noted Kannada actor Puneeth Rajkumar when Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao died of a heart attack at the age of 46, canceling the event.
The design was renamed in memory of the late actor. “Karnataka Ratna” was conferred posthumously by Puneeth Rajkumar Hrudaya Jyoti Yojana.
There are two ways to use the program. Hub and spoke models and automated external defibrillators (AEDs) should be installed in public areas.

The goal of the program is to install emergency equipment in public areas so that heart attack victims can receive treatment in critical times.
There will be 10 hubs and spoke centers in 85 districts, and 31 district hospitals in district. The program aims to save lives from unexpected heart attacks.

- According to recent studies, younger individuals develop heart attacks. A recent study found that 35 percent of heart disease affects people in their 40s.
- In cardiac cases, the goal should be to save as many lives as possible. In addition, they must be cared for at all times. Our Health Service has made great strides in this area.
- The government has identified 85 taluk hospitals and districts as “talk” areas. Ten centers have been set up by 16 highly specialized hospitals, including the Sri Jayadeva Heart Research Institute.
- The government plans to use artificial intelligence (AI) devices in speech-mix environments to determine the severity of a patient’s illness in four to five minutes
- The minister advised anyone with chest problems to visit a spoke center immediately for an ECG.
- Those with severe heart failure are given free doses of tenecteplase, which prevents sudden cardiac arrest.
- Tenecteplace injections cost between 30,000 and 45,000 in private institutions. Government hospitals would provide this drug free of charge to the patient.
- The hospitals at the taluk level are the centers of speech. After initial treatment, patients are referred to “hub centers,” which are larger, more specialized hospitals, for advanced medical procedures such as angioplasty or angiograms
