The chief minister earlier convened a review meeting with officials and elected representatives at his office in the secretariat to discuss the concerns of the toddy-tapping community.
The Chief Minister announced an insurance scheme for the community and then tasked Finance Minister T Haris Rao and Excise Minister V Srinivas Gowda to formulate the implementation of the scheme.

Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao on Tuesday reaffirmed his government’s commitment to the welfare of various social groups as he unveiled a unique scheme called Gita Karma Kula Bima which will provide insurance cover of Rs. 5 scarcity, similar to the Rithu Bhima scheme already in place for farmers.
He also promised that the state government would procure the entire crop, including paddy reserves, at the same price to farmers affected by monsoons, which are linked to rainwater.
Talking about the ongoing paddy procurement and plans to minimize losses after the monsoon, the chief minister urged agriculture officials to plan ahead to ensure that the paddy harvest ended as soon as possible , preferably in March of the following year, to prevent loss of crops from spring disasters.

Ex gratia payments have been made by the government in the past for deadly accidents involving toddy tappers, but the procedure took time.
The innovative Rythu Bima farm program was designed by the government and was being successfully implemented, benefiting thousands of farmer families throughout the State. The same benefits should accrue to the toddy tappers.
