Tamil Nadu government established Tamil Nadu Open Sewing Machine. Through this scheme, free sewing machines are provided to the beneficiaries so that they can create their own employment. This program is implemented by the Department of Social Welfare and Nutrition Policy.

Under this scheme cloth is supplied free of cost to the 32 spinning mills operating under the jurisdiction of the Social Welfare Department.

These fabrics are cut at a spinning mill. Then, the fabric is given to the participating tailoring companies to sew the garments. Through these associations, knitted garments are distributed to 413 AEEOs and 67 DEOs of the Ministry of Education.

Under this scheme, the government has provided 15,500 advanced sewing machines with 10% government subsidy to women industrial sector members Under this scheme, women weaving training centers are also functioning in Salem and Thiruvannamalai a it is mainly tribal women. These centers train 35 tribal women every year.
